The Application of Total Nutrients Admixture System in Surgical Patients

Abstract
The total nutrients admixture(TNA) system where lipids, amino acid, glucose, electrolytes and trace minerals are mixed in one flexible container was introduced by Solassol et al' in Montpellier, France in 1972.
A number of hospitals in Europe and in America have adopted the TNA system and found it to be a relatively safe and convenient method of TPN administration.
The General Surgery Dept, Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital, have administered the TNA system to surgical patients since 1990 and this study is the clinical results of 100 patients to whom cTPN or TNA system had been administered for more than 14
days
from Sept. 1990 to Aug. 1995.
The analytic method was retrospective study in which 2 well-matched groups of 50 patients cTPN group and 50 patients TNA groups were compared each other in the effectiveness of nutritional support.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN Both cTPN group and TNA group revealed similar changes of body weight, plasma albumin and transferrin, nitrogen balance, and similar results inclinical improvement.
So we believe that TNA system is one of the parenteral nutrition methods with various kinds of merit in effectiveness and convenience in administration
